This was a horrible copy of the text book

This was a horrible copy of the text book. I assumed I was getting a text book. But when I got it it was only half of the book. This was the worst purchase I've ever made. I would have returned it back, but the whole shipping and re-buying thing would have took some time and I needed to do my class work and homework. So I had to scan the rest of the book from a classmate. So upsetting. What a rip off. It would have been nice to include that information on the description of the text book.

I had a great teacher for this class, but I really didn't like this book. A lot of the homework had random questions that I would have to look up on the internet to find the answer for and it didn't explain things very well. If I remember correctly it also had words bolded and then wouldn't give definitions or anything for the bolded words. Also the spider on the cover isn't pleasing. I'm very afraid of spiders, even pictures freak me out. So could the next edition just have fish or like a person?

Things to Know

The information in this text is extremely helpful in understanding the course. Make sure you realize before you buy it that this is looseleaf and not a bound textbook! My major complaint is that many of the tables are mislabeled, leading to confusion when doing experiments and recording data. Also, it is way too heavy and bulky to try to carry around, which really irritated me at first until it dawned on me that you can just take the pages to class that you will be working on that day. Overall, it was useful, as long as you don't try to lug the whole thing around.

Fabulous resource for skirts and pants!

The chart on how much fabric to buy to make a gored skirt is worth the price by itself! Then it goes on to give you ideas on different kinds of skirts and pants that work not only with belly dancing, but other styles of clothing, as well. Gored skirts, for instance, are a wardrobe staple. Pants that are gathered into cuffs are appropriate for costumes all over the Middle and Far East. The pants section even saved my costume when I cut the pants too short. I flipped through the ideas and the cuffs were the perfect solution. They even looked better than if I'd used my original idea. Buy this book!

Comprehensive, basic guide to pants and skirts

This is a great handbook to have on hand if you are making your own costumes at home. There are nice illustrations throughout the book as well as clearly written instructions on costume confection. It is a thin handbook, so don't expect to find here laborious costumes or advance costuming techniques, but it is definitely a nice reference to have handy when doing any kind of costume. It includes ways to measure and patterns for skirts, skirt toppers and pants with many variations.

I love this book and plan to buy more from this author. I use ready made patterns and knew that there was a way to make changes to skirts, but I didn't know how. This book showed me how. I just needed a dress form and then I was off and running. I can make anything and I love the drawings and ideas in this publication. It provides instructions for patterns and shows ways to incorporate variations of a pattern.

HDR Made Easy

Like others here, I have followed Serge's youtube channel for quite some time and have learned an incredible amount about the art of post processing from his informative and easy to understand videos. This book carries on in exactly the same vein as those videos with its simplicity and Serge's unique style of teaching. As ever, Serge will provide you with some RAW files to help you to follow along with the techniques in the book.

The book describes a few ways to achieve a natural HDR photograph under different circumstances such as in the golden/blue hours, for interiors, black and white and even from a single RAW file, giving clear instructions with photographs to illustrate the points that are made. Besides this there are many tips and hints that can be used during the processing of pretty much any photo that are invaluable.

The book starts with the equipment that you'll need and quickly gets to the heart of the matter; going out and shooting yourself some great HDR photos and processing them (this is the majority of the book's focus, of course).

If there is one complaint that can be levied at this excellent learning tool, it is that it only covers Canon and Sony equipment, which is no huge problem at all, as anyone shooting Nikon (like me!) or anything else will get the points being made in the setup chapter as cameras work the same way with little difference between the brands.

In summary then, this is an excellent book, which will help newcomers to the world of HDR no end. Old hands at this type of photography could also benefit from its numerous tips from a great teacher like Serge. In case you are unsure of whether to buy it, I would certainly recommend heading to Serge's youtube channel and checking out some of his excellent videos to acquaint yourself with his style of photography and teaching. I am certain that this would help you make up your own mind and inspire your passion for photography at the same time!

Serge Ramelli is a mentor on youtube for many photographers. For years, he has been putting up a video every week that helped photographers improve their craft. Now he has been releaseing a book on HDR photography and it's a great one.

The way Serge teach photography and post-processing for others make it really easy to follow along and achive great results by your self. This book is no different. It's a complete book on the art of HDR photography and is all you need on the subject. With an easy-to-understand way of teaching everyone can now master the hdr. If you are a pro there is some tips even for you! I have read many e-books on photography but this one is on of there better ones I've come across.

Serge Ramelli has been a great mentor to me

Serge Ramelli has been a great mentor to me. I have followed all his tutorials and they have taught me a lot when it comes to retouching in lightroom or photoshop. When I first started photography, I was struggling a lot with landscape photography especially during sunset time, but after watching Serge tutorial, my skills changed drastically. What I like most about Serge is that he is honest and he is straight forward; he tells and shows exactly how to retouch the photo, or which techniques he has used. He does not hide anything, and I think its awesome. He is awesome as a photographer, I love his work. Looking at his gallery is simply mesmerizing.

An enduring living biography on Squanto (Tisquantum)

This is a great living biography book about Tisquantum (Squanto). This book isn't a fairy tale story that most Squanto and Pilgrim books portray to us and our children. "This book relies on primary source documents of the period, and tells the story of the European scramble for expansion and colonization from a Native American point of view."

Squanto endured much hardship through his youth and adult life and yet, he was able to overcome and forgive those who stole his life and soul. He adopted the Mayflower pilgrims who moved onto his people's (Patuxet tribe of the Wampanoag) sacred ground after his entire Patuxet tribe died of a plague carried over from the old world. He taught the Mayflower pilgrims his people's heritage on surviving in the wilderness in which the Wampanoag people held sacred and loved so dearly.

Find out how Captain George Weymouth, Captain John Smith, Sir Ferdinando Gorges, England's King James I and VI of Scotland, Thomas Hunt, Thomas Dermer, Miles Standish, William Bradford and many other historical figures relate to Squanto's life story.

Squanto, a pivotal American citizen

The book was well researched as a historical classic yet read like a novel. It equally explained the Native American, British, Spanish and French cultures in the 1600s without bias. This is important because Squanto spent most of his life under British dominion and was a fluent English speaker. Once I started reading the book, I tried to put it down but could not. Thus, I read it in one day. This book should be a must read for anyone who wants to truly understand the Thanksgiving Holiday. Also, it faithfully followed the dynamic of the Christian faith on which our nation was founded yet without forcing the issue. Squanto was shown as the tragic victim he was, yet he overcame every obstacle through his relationship with Christ and the forgiveness he found for those who had deeply wronged him. I found the book extremely inspiring.
