Really enjoying this series

Really enjoying this series. I loved this just as much as book one in the series.
I was looking forward to Connor's story after reading Forging Bonds. I was not disappointed! I love Connor. He and Harry are perfect together.
This is a great cast of characters. And the author does a good job of getting you into the characters head. I thought her depiction of Harry was wonderful.

It was great seeing Tate & Chris' relationship progress. I like that the book didn't just focus on Connor & Harry but also Tate & Chris and Jesse & Mark. Again, this is a great cast of characters. We were introduced to some new characters I hope to learn more about. And I liked the introduction of the MC. I hope we see them again as well, especially Pony.

Looking forward to more of this series. And I'm going to give a shout out to these book covers, they're absolutely beautiful!

I loved Connor and Harry's story. So much of Harry's past hurts and his challenges tore at my heartstrings. I wanted so bad to give him a hug. He was such a love it was hard not to fall for the guy. I can totally understand why Connor is head over heels in love with him. The two of them have fought so hard to be together. I feel bad for Connor having to deal with a Mother like his. It was wonderful being able to continue to see Tatum & Chris's relationship grow. I loved this book from beginning to end.

Absolutely brilliant. I loved this book as much as the first one. Conner with his unconditional love for Harry and his determination to fight to keep the man he loves in his life no matter what. You can feel the passion and the love that went into writing this book. I look forward to reading more by Ruby MacIntyre.

In the shadowy underground of the world, there's darkness in the sweetest people and gentleness in the roughest. They go together like this, hand in hand, the shadow and the light, the bad and the good, the evil and the pure. Sometimes, you'll be surprised which side takes precedence. This is something that winds its way throughout in THE EVIL AND THE PURE.

From the onset, the use of voice in this novel is spectacular. It grabbed me from the start and didn't let me go until long after the final page where my head remained reeling. It uses a colloquial, well-crafted narration that provides insight beyond the limited scope. It lets the readers develop an intimate relationship with the main characters, letting the reader see their lives come together and intertwine, then individually fall apart. The pacing is smooth and carries you right through, where personal promises of "just one more page" are hard to keep. It was an engaging read, but by no means does that mean it's light, playful reading. It had moments of pure darkness with some of the most vile monsters because of how plausible and REAL they are--because they're HUMAN, in all of their darkness and perversion, greed and guile.

Personally, I absolutely adored this. This book was gangsters and grit. It brought forth some characters I positively love and others that make me feel ill. It had me cringing and on the edge of my seat in rotating intervals. Definitely not a book for the under aged or overly squeamish, but so, so potent and powerful. If you like gangster stories and are willing to venture down the crooked path of sex, money, drugs, and mobsters, this fantastic, gritty, gripping work has your number.

Amazing author evolution!

When a beloved YA author takes the plunge and publishes an adult novel, the fans who grew up with said author are always a little apprehensive, and rightfully so.
Darren Dash (nice anagram!) has broken out into the adult market with his debut The Evil and The Pure, a dark and twisted crime novel.

You have a wide cast of characters to love and/or despise:
Big Sandy, the hired hitman of a top gangster, who has spent his life looking to take revenge out on the man who killed his mother when he was eleven.
He works for Dave "Bush" Bushinsky, a high-powered gangster in London who wants only one thing and just needs the money to get it.
Bush has a pet scientist named Tony Phials who is working on a new drug that could make Bush a multi-millionaire.
Clint Smith is Bush's cousin, a small-time dealer with delusions of grandeur. He wants to make money, to to New York and get the girl of his dreams, Bush's niece...as long as a slimebag actor doesn’t get her first.
Kevin and Tulip Tyne are siblings who have been orphaned. Adult Kevin gets off on watching teenage Tulip have sex with strange men and he hires her out to fulfill his own sick fantasies, including to the scientist Phials and the priest, Father Sebastian.
Gawl McCaskey is a man who has left a trail of women's bodies from Scotland to Australia and he is looking for a job in London. Greedy Clint and the mystery drug just might be what he was searching for to retire in comfort.

The Evil and The Pure is nothing like Cirque du Freak, The Demonata or Zom-B by Darren Shan. Darren Dash writes here about something much more sinister than the paranormal: real human beings.
Some of his fans might find this a little too dark, but I think those of us who grew up with him and are now adults ourselves will find this to be an amazing read and sound proof of the evolution of his talents.
The violence is vicious, but not overdone for sales or shock value. This takes torture (think the amptutation in Misery by Stephen King but to the genitalia and rabid dog maulings) to a new level.
The story flows easily, going from interesting to page-turning rapid action. If you don't mind a little bloodshed, read this book. It's got the cast complexity of a Maeve Binchy novel as if written by a violent madman, and I mean that as a compliment!
The characters are the best part, as they make the story. The way it's written, you feel like you know them, like you can see them standing right in front of you.
Another thing I liked was the goodness that shone through the dark; a silver lining in the black cloud of real thug life.
This is a book you won’t want to end!

Be warned: This book is vulgar. Most of the characters have 0 redeeming qualities and the story itself is grusome and dirty. But, if that's your cup of tea (congratulations!) this book is perfect.

Louann Brizendine, a neuropsychiatrist at the University of California, San Francisco, explores groundbreaking issues in brain science with mixed results. Critics debate the author's presentation and research; some extol her many and varied sources and the book's accessibility, while others take her to task for relying too heavily on anecdotal evidence and "dumbing down" the text (Robin Marantz Henig cites the author's repeated use of "cutesy language" and slang). Despite the critical ambivalence, the author certainly has the credentials to write this book. Brizendine graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine and draws on research done at the Women's and Teen Girls' Mood and Hormone Clinic, which she founded at UCSF in 1994. So the question is, do you require step-by-step proof for conclusions some consider controversial, or are you willing to take her word for it?

Neuropsychiatrist Brizendine acknowledges she may be going out on a lonely limb by asserting that males and females have distinctly different brains. She says that, in addition to certain hard-wired dissimilarities, male and female brain chemistries differ in being powered by hormones so potent they can reshape each gender's conception of reality (which in no way is related to ability). Thanks to advances in noninvasive imaging technology, such as positron-emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans, scientists have been able to quantify the effects of hormones on brain receptors. They have also been able to study how and when surges of specific hormones "marinate" the brain, affecting everything from gender education to sexual responsiveness to aggression. Brizendine doesn't rule out socialization as a factor in gender identification, but she insists that biology must take at least half the credit. What with nearly 70 pages of references to the research upon which she constructs her argument, out on a limb Brizendine may be, but who's left to hand her a saw? Donna Chavez

THE FEMALE BRAIN

I chose this book to gain an alternative insight into myself as a woman. But more importantly, I felt that traditional methods of evaluating women from research methods employed in sociology, psychology, economic, financial, geo-political, politico-economic, socio-economic, and legal studies were clinically and practically valid but fragmentary and non-integrative with the biomedical model. I could favor a holistic diagnosis method too. However, there had to be a neurologically-based intelligent method of evaluating and understanding women. I mean, the Creator had to have an intelligence behind our nature. It was a simple matter of employing them properly. Feminism sought to liberate women from the sin, incompetence, and fallacies of Freud as well as other fallen misunderstood interpretations of women's biology, biochemistry, and psycho-biological and hormonal complexities. I was an avid lover of herbs and aromatherapy but could not afford to invest in those branches of education in order to cultivate an alternative understanding. I could not afford to learn all different religious interpretations either.

I found it ironic that feminism wanted to divorce themselves from fallen teachings of traditional psychiatry and other fallen neurological interpretations in order to prevent misdiagnosis. However, by eliminating the discipline of neuroscience and neuro-hormonal studies altogether, women can be disempowered by lacking the tools and insight to treat themselves and modulate their brain and bodies which are the true tree of life (more than a sanctuary). Women need to know in other historical contexts not mentioned in this book that ancient ancestral females were intelligent enough to time their hormones which is the core of female intelligence validated through this book.

I recommend all clinicians, parents, mental health professionals, teachers, religious leaders, and individuals read this book regardless of your faith-based upbringing. This book may either validate your teachings or challenge your original assumptions and prejudices you never knew you had.

It is not a mystery of why women are the way they are. Definitely buy this book!

A Must Read for Husbands and Fathers

This is an outstanding book! It is very well written and researcherd. I only wish I would have read it before I married and had four children. It would have saved me many unnecessary arguments, and it would have taught me to be patient with my children, particularly my two daughters. It has, however, prepared me for future in-law children and grandchildren.

Brizendine gives incredible insight into female behavior, based on advancements in nuerology. She explains everything from the monthly emotional turbulence in women to why they possess extraordinary skill in relationships, communication, motherhood, and spousal forbearance. She also teaches us what to expect in every phase of life from the troublesome teenage years to motherhood to menopause. The references alone are worth the price of the book. I highly recommend it.

Great Insights for both Men and Women

I read this book years ago and still remember some of the insights I learned from it. I bought and read the sequel "The Male Brain" and found that book equally informative about people's behaviors. I heard the author interviewed on various NPR programs, including Terry Gross' "Fresh Air" and my local public radio station KQED's program "Forum". This book and its "companion" "The Male Brain" should be delightful reading for parents, their teenage and adult kids and college freshmen, who must navigate life's challenges on their own as newly minted, liberated adults in the fast-moving, evolving environments in colleges (and universities), especially if they live on-campus or away from home (off-campus housing). These books can be used as "self-help" books are budding adults, whether they are young men, young women or young couples. Long-term couples and their parents can benefit hugely from reading this book and its companion.
