You will be so glad to be free and finally have food in the ...

I have struggled with my weight for years and mainly did several times Weight Watchers. I would lose the weight but regain it. Finally the Lord showed me that diets were not the answer. I saw Lisa Bevere on Life Today and heard about this book and also her book, "You Are Not What You Weigh." Both books are exceptional and the Lord has used them to transform my life, spiritually, emotionally, and also physically. This is not a diet. This is about turning to the Lord instead of food and I have found that He will help you each time. I am so thankful for both of her books. Also I want to mention that even though Lisa did not have lots of weight to lose, don't let that stop you from making this purchase. It doesn't matter if you are 10 pounds overweight or 200 pounds, it is about the Lord! You will be so glad to be free and finally have food in the right place in your life and your walk with the Lord strengthened! Life changing!

A Life Preserver for Girls, for Women, For Everyone!

This book kickstarted my right perspective back into gear. It's a great read that deals with how we see ourselves as women. This book is a deeply personal account of the author's journey from a warped perspective fueled by media and others perception of what beauty is, to one of wholeness and healing to others based upon our Creator's perception of us as beautiful. I love it. It was a lifesaver for me when I needed it the most!

Of Martyrs and Marigolds is the story of a young Pakistani woman, caught in the throes of revenge in the after birth of Bangladesh, the golden land, born after nine months gestation, with the Mother Goddess of India, Indira Gandhi, playing midwife. The protagonist, Suri, is born to parents who choose to migrate from India to the eastern wing of Pakistan, at the time of the great partition of 1947, when the British Empire finally dissolved its colony in the Indian Subcontinent. Suri, leads an idyllic life defined by the various cultural aspects of society in East Pakistan informed deeply by the Bengali language, the British colonial past and the Muslim social character of a country created in the name of Islam. She carries these hues within her and it is never a problem until she is caught up in the rapidly unfolding violence that accompanies the birth of Bangladesh. The narrative follows non-chronologically beginning on the 4th day of February in 1972, the day Suri is forced out of her house in Mirpur, an enclave in the suburbs of Dacca. Interwoven with the present is the family’s past history with Suri’s young parents setting up home and having children in the new land. Of Martyrs and Marigolds is also the story of the romance between Suri and Rumi which blossoms in Dacca University. The campus is the focal point of the liberation struggle and Rumi’s cousin is one of the February 1952 martyrs, shot by policemen when protesting the imposition of Urdu over Bengali as the national language. When Suri ultimately becomes a victim of this division based on the spoken language, the intensity of their love tries to transcend the political facts of Bangladesh. Suri is deemed to not belong to the land of her birth and is placed in an internment camp for women, located in an abandoned mansion on the banks of one of the forty-four rivers that crisscross the golden land. Ultimately she has to choose between her family and her love for a man who belongs to the side that massacres and dispossesses her people. In parallel with Suri’s story is that of her friend Haseena, whose parents are from Isfahan, Iran. She is discovered by Pakistani soldiers under the dead bodies of women in the seaport city of Chittagong in March 1971, following events that take place before the onset of the nine-month struggle for liberation. This proves that ethnic cleansing of Suri’s people was not only due to their perceived support of the oppressors, but a consequence of the inherent adversarial internal dynamics between the people of the two wings of the country. The internal divisions are fanned by India which ultimately fights a war with Pakistan to deliver Bangladesh to the Bengalis. Evocative and elegant, Of Martyrs and Marigolds, is both historical drama and stunning romance. Ismail examines the horrors of ethnic cleansing of Biharis by the Bengalis as well as the fierce and indomitable courage of Bengalis, who refuse to be extinguished in the face of a marauding national army. Although a story of the massacre of Urdu-speaking people in East Pakistan/Bangladesh in 1971 and 1972, the novel brims with sympathy and compassion for the Bengalis who seek a country for themselves. About the Author
Aquila Ismail nee Rahman was born in East Pakistan and moved to Karachi in 1972 following the creation of Bangladesh. She has worked as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the NED University, Karachi, and as Development Engineer for Glaxo Laboratories Pakistan. She has written extensively on literature, women’s issues as well as development concerns of Karachi in leading Pakistani newspapers and magazines. Ismail continues to document the work of Karachi based development NGOs, the Orangi Pilot Project [OPP] and the Urban Resource Center [URC]. Her published works include translated fiction such as Harvest of Anger and Other Stories, Godavari, Reflections in a Cracked Mirror and Zindabahar Lane. She has edited and written several non-fiction books including, The Microcredit Program of the Orangi Charitable Trust, and articles in the international magazine Environment and Urbanization. She currently lives in Abu Dhabi with her family.

An emotional experience

Aquila Ismail's book `Of Martyrs and Marigolds'is an outstanding piece of work.She writes beautifully and has described to perfection life in Bangladesh ( East Pakistan at the time ) through her story of Suri, Rumi , their families and friends.Her knowledge of the terrain,flora and fauna, customs and traditions of a complex land is profound.As a Bengali I apologize for the atrocities inflicted on the Biharis at the time...truly lamentable and unjustifiable!However one must never forget the blame lies squarely on Yahya Khan and Zulfikar Ali Bhuttoo who started all this by not accepting that Sheikh Mujib be allowed to form a Govt. when he had clearly won a landslide election.For nine long months as described in the book the Pakistani army systematically wreaked havoc on the Bengali population.The result was revenge and reprisal on the Biharis some of whom were considered collaborators.`Of Martyrs and Marigolds'is a must read and evokes deep emotions both happy and sad.

I just received this book in the mail a a week ago and finally finished it today. I enjoyed the book, and found it to be rich in history, as well as the necessary prose required of a novel. My ancestors were impacted by this political event, yet I never really get to hear about the personal experiences of both Bengalis and' Urdu-speaking peoples. Much of the documented history on this series of events revolves around military and political history, rather than the social effects it had on the people. This is a hot topic, so I can see why so little' has been done to transpose these experiences into literature. I am optimistic about the book and do believe that it will do great justice in providing additional insights on the inception of Bangladesh for anyone interested in post-colonial South Asia.

Love and Hatred in the Garden of Eden

On the 25th of March 1971 the land of the confluence of 44 lazy rivers burned with such a raging fire that it created in its wake a new nation of Bangladesh. Like all Civil Wars this war too was a result of a long and deeply seething disenchantment with the ruling class. Only 24 years ago India had undergone a similar trauma that had given birth to Pakistan (East and West Pakistan). The only difference was that India's division was based on religion and East Pakistan's secession was based on language. "The flood of dew was still fresh on the broad-leaved grass that soft February morning in 1972 when Suri was herded out of her house in Mirpur, a suburb of Dacca, by soldiers of Bangladesh. Forty-nine days earlier, East Pakistan, the eastern part of the land created for the Muslims of India in 1947, had become Bangladesh, the golden land, the land of those whose mother tongue was Bengali. All those whose mother tongue was not Bengali had no claim to this golden land whatsoever."

Aquila Ismail's fictional tale is a virtual account of the misfortunes that fell on the non Bengali speaking population after the creation of Bangladesh that she narrates with deep conviction and authenticity. Her expressive prose flows fluently and languidly like the many rivers of Bangladesh. Her story is painted in a complex milieu of many subjects: political and Military supremacy of West Pakistan, the Bengali peoples love of their language, insurgency and resentment against West Pakistanis - all mixed in with the main theme like a spicy recipe. Suri, the young college going narrator of the book unfolds the main story in titillating increments like the pink petals of the water lily. Her restrained use of the dark and gory incidents is masterfully interspersed along with the main story that is painstakingly revealed in the vivid and vibrant portrayal of the lives of an ordinary Urdu speaking couple that had voluntarily migrated to East Pakistan in 1947 and go about making a living and raising four children in a land they call home.

The book is profoundly charming in spite of the terrible back drop of conflict and war. Her clear and lucid narration avoids the sad tone of a self immolating narrator and manages to hide the anguish and pain that haunted her for forty years in the innocent and yet composed character of Suri. Her accurate descriptions of landscapes and outdoor scenes is nothing short of a lush Garden of Eden with colorful imagery of exotic plants, flowers and snakes. Among the upheavals of war Ismail discreetly unfolds a love story. Rumi, a Bengali speaking dreamy eyed boy is in love with Suri, whose family is being forced to leave Bangladesh. Their love story is the silver lining that weaves in and out throughout the book like the hauntingly sweet aroma of of raat ki rani. " ...but she lived for the time she spent with Rumi. They walked over to his house, and sat on the patio at the back under the stars. The gardenia bush next to the patio was in full bloom... They held hands and kissed."

This book deserves all 5 stars. Wow is the word to use, it has helped me identify things I got wrong from past relationships and offered brilliant insight to improving me. About the Author
Ria Meade is a native Long Islander, living in a harbor community that borders the town where she grew up. Ria drew and painted from early childhood and earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts in 1977. Ria was working in New York City in 1982, when the childhood concern, Juvenile Diabetes, took her sight completely. Life changed dramatically and artistic passion took a back seat as she learned to deal with her blindness. Ria credits being saved by the six Labrador Retriever guide dogs she has been paired with over the last thirty years allowing her creativity to return in the form of these poems. She lives with her present guide Tessie, retired guide Olympia and a plush rescued Calico feline, Thomasina.

Chris Wraight is the author of the Horus Heresy novel Scars, the novella Brotherhood of the Storm and the audio drama The Sigillite. For Warhammer 40,000 he has written the Space Wolves novels Blood of Asaheim and Stormcaller, and the short story collection Wolves of Fenris, as well as the Space Marine Battles novels Wrath of Iron and Battle of the Fang. A solid Black Library novel.

This is probably one of the better books in the End Times series that culminated the saga of the Old World in preparation for the Age of Sigmar Warhammer revamp. In it the forces of Chaos are encroaching upon the Empire's capital of Altdorf and for most of the book following a surprising prologue we follow the Reiksmarshal,Kurt Helborg,as he attempts to muster a defense of the capital. The pace is quite good and the perspective changes around quite a lot from new characters to certain prolific names in the Warhammer world (Which I won't spoil,but provide a great moral conundrum within the story).

As it is a Warhammer novel the action is as visceral as ever. The Prologue is particularly enrapturing before things go south because like the 5th book gave Valten a little time to shine in the prologue this one gave Karl Franz some time in the limelight and Chris Wraight handles his character exceptionally well; You can very much see why he is a man that entire legions would follow into glorious battle to protect the Empire. From there things happen and the book does a solid job never letting up and the climax is bittersweet for any fan of the Empire and it's panoply of heroes. It should be noted that while I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it and the vocabulary is excellent like many of these Black Library novels there are a few blatant typos that do seem a little silly,but they weren't enough to dampen my enjoyment of this book.

All in all it was an excellent read!

Pretty well written and developed story

Pretty well written and developed story. It is pretty depressing story - end of the world type stuff. U will find out what happens to a major character - FRANZ. The ending is intriguing - but little confusing as to what actually happened - when the emperors fate is revealed. Nice to see the bad guys dont have it all their own way. Sort of a no-one wins scenario.

Excellent Project Management resource for heavy engineering and construction projects

There are multitudes of books on project management but they are very general and not specific to engineering or heavy construction projects. This book is directed at complex engineering projects. It would definitely a good introduction to project management for engineering students and I recommend it for project management professionals early in their careers. The material is also suitable for sharing portions with non-project managers such as commercial and operations to better understand the challenges and role of project managers better. The book covers the full range of project management for engineering projects from initiation, early estimating, budgeting, work breakdown, scheduling, construction, risk management, and close out. It also covers soft project management skills related to project teams and personal management.
