I assume this is a compilation from the author's website. The book covers many interesting subject areas some of which are hard to find elsewhere and requiring a modest level of mathematical expertise (e.g. no use of the Hamiltonian formulation of classical dynamics). Sadly the author has chosen to remain anonymous and so I find myself cross-referencing more than I would normally. The reader should note that the author uses geometric units so, for example, they will find no mention of the gravitational constant in the calculation of the precession of the perihelion of Mercury.

Read this book if you want to understand the underpinnings of competitive advantage

I may be the only person to write a review for this book, as its price is a little steep for the casual business book reader and this is not a casual business book.

Dynamic Capabilities is an academically based book, a collection of co-coordinated articles about the nature of capabilities in general and the capabilities that change capabilities (aka dynamic capabilities). As an academic book it is very strong with the authors tackling many of the major economic and corporate strategy issues involving why enterprises are designed and work in a particular way. From this perspective it is theory that is well researched, carefully and clearly explained.

Capabilities in general and dynamic capabilities in particular are critical for enterprises in devising and realizing their strategies and performance goals. In this regard, this book is a must read for corporate strategists and corporate development processionals who need to understand how to organize and structure the enterprise for success.

The articles in this book lay down the rational and logic for your leaders should view and organize their resources to achieve their strategies. I will admit that the language and the structure of the chapter/articles are geared more for researchers and students, but taking the time to read, understand and reflect on the implications of these research pieces is well worth the effort.

I'm the kind of girl that enjoys reading both the Da Vinci code and Gossip girl but when I came across the book pool boys I thought it would be a quick non-deep easy book to read. And to some extent I was right but I was wrong about the book being 2nd choice and not top notch because it was.

The three main characters, Brooke, Charlotte and Gorgia are three best friends that have been going to the Silver Oaks Country club since they were 5 years old. The girls are just looking forward to another summer of bikinis, boys and partying but all that changes when Brooke lays her eyes on the new lifegaurd Marcus. The three girls try flirting with him but Brooke gets pissed off that Marcus seems to like the new girl (Valerie) better.

The book takes place over a couple of weeks of the girls summer holidays and includes a breif romance period between Brooke and Marcus, A shocking revelation that Charlotte has a crush on the "Geeky" guy Caleb the girls have known forever and a hook-up between Charlotte and another old friend Robbie. Gorgia also has her fair share of excitment with her ex the tennis caoch at Silver Oaks and the new girl Valerie.

The girls break up and make up through out the whole book and it takes shocking twists and turns.

All in all the book was pretty good and I definitely recommend the book as a summer read to girls who enjoyed things like The A-list, Gossip Gril etc etc

This book is just like gossip girls and a-list. All the charactors are totally superficial and don't care about anything but themselves. None of them are likable. Read this if you want to read about a bunch of rich snobs who think they rule the world.

Silver Oaks Country Club is an exclusive place where secrets and scandals are the name of the game.

Brooke, Charlotte, and Georgia have grown up together and have always been best friends. No matter what. Then Valerie, the mysterious new girl, who seems to be all over all the pool boys, arrives.

Charlotte and Valerie become friends and are always hanging out and playing tennis together. Charlotte (referred to as "C") slowly shuts out her old friends. Brooke and Georgia feel betrayed.

Who likes who is the constant question in this book. It's very difficult to keep track of, too, because there are so many characters and the scenes change really fast. It was worth reading, but you have to pay attention all of the time to figure out who is doing what, and who they're doing it with!

Very Interesting & Playable Pieces

I bought this book because it looked interesting. I showed the book to my guitar teacher. He was thrilled to see so much interesting material for me to learn at my level. His final comment: "This is a great find." I wound up gifting my copy to my teacher so he can plan out what he wants me to learn next. I'm ordering another copy for myself today.

Highly recommended but only four stars instead of five because music books NEED to be spiral bound and this is not.

I wasn't familiar with the works of Bartolome Calatayud. Many of these pieces are both easy and beautiful. Highly recommended for the classical guitar student. These pieces are also an excellent source of material for any teacher.

This book is packed with references. The book takes you through some of the cutting edge interpretations of the letters. At first it seems the chapters are entirely impracticable. But what ends up happining is the letters become alive. They take on 22 aspects of "energy-intellegence" which is like their personality . its a awesome book and if your interested in the Kabbalah Centre i believe that its a great companion. Pretty advanced and comprehension is aided by other works by Rav Berg. If you want to learn the the unique letters and thier properties you'll love this choice.

Every serious Christian should own this book. This teaching empower the follower of Jesus Christ to appreciate the word of God in a deeper way, every time I pick up this book it electrify me to go back and search out in a deeper meaning on how to apply the scriptures to my life. As I began to read this book I felt the need to tell as many people as would listen that the Hebrew language is important in these times as we seek God's wisdom in doing His will.

"Language as Symbolic Action, as its subtitle tells us, collects under a single cover many of Burke's essays which have appeared in widely diverse periodicals. In some respects Burke has been an eminence gris on the academic and scholarly scene. His wide-ranging interests have placed many of his most important essays in obscure periodicals, and they have produced syntheses whose brilliance is matched only by the difficulties of reading they have posed for often too narrowly trained specialists. And, without a formal training in an academic discipline, he has seldom surveyed the work of the men on whom he has drawn. Very often the reader who has not read Ogden and Richards, Korzybski, Nietzsche, and Freud--to name only a few--finds Burke very difficult going at best. In many respects Language as Symbolic Action presents Burke at his best. In these essays he is most completely his own man and least dependent on his sources; these essays demand less prior knowledge on the part of the reader. Here the structure of "collected essays" allows the reader to move from the inductive development of basic notions to their specific applications in literary criticism, rhetoric, and language. About the Author
Kenneth Burke was a self-taught thinker who attempted to integrate scientific and philosophical concepts with his analysis of semantics and literature. Between 1927 and 1929, Burke worked for the "Dial "as a music critic. After a brief stint with "The Nation "(1934-36), he turned to literary criticism and taught at Bennington College from 1943 to 1961. His many works have all been published by the University of California Press.

No serious rhetorician can be without a copy

One cannot underestimate the value of this work. This collection of essays contains some of the most important concepts with which Burke dealt including his definition of man, his concept of terministic screens, his dramatistic view of the origin of language with his especially important postscript on the negative. A contemporary thinker simply cannot discuss rhetoric or language without this book. I was recently shocked to find my copy missing from my library and I am wasting no time in replacing it. This is an essential part of any rhetorician's library.

Required Reading for Rhetoricians

This is where Burke defines the terministic screen concept, which I found very valuable in my undergraduate thesis on visual rhetoric. The title is fairly significant; it's an interesting language concept that Burke explains at some length.
I will warn, however, that Burke takes special pains to make his writing difficult to follow. Sometimes, I don't think he's really saying much of anything--just sputtering words and sentences for the hell of it.
Still, any hoity toity English department is going to throw Burke's name around, even if they haven't ever actually read the damn books. If you're serious about rhetoric or the English field in general, you'll need a copy.

He has published a number of articles as well as the acclaimed New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology: Abridged Edition (Zondervan, 2000), Paul’s Style of Church Leadership as Illustrated by His Instructions to the Corinthians on the Collection (Mellen, 1992), and A Not-So-Silent Night: The Unheard Story of Christmas and Why It Matters (Kregel, 2009).

Superior to the original unabridged set!

This is not a kiddie version of the New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology (DNTT). I think in many respects, this is superior. Actually, when you consider the superior factors and then look at the price difference from the original, I think you'd find it hard to justify ever buying the four volume set.

First off, this is more well organized and easier to use. The editors of this abridged edition (DNTT-AE) noticed that while the original grouped the Greek words by English words (e.g., two, three, or more words could be grouped under an English word), there was little discussion of the similarities and differences between the Greek words grouped there. So they decided to list all words by Greek word order, not English. This makes finding the word you want a breeze. However, they've helpfully listed the other related words grouped in the original DNTT at the end of the entry for comparisons.

Second, they've included the Goodrick-Kohlenberger numbering system, which is now used in so many other NT resources. This allows those who can't read Greek to more easily benefit from this book.

Third, they retained almost all of the important stuff. They made it shorter by 1) deleting those extensive bibliographies after each entry, many of which are now dated and half of which were in German. Most pastors wouldn't use that information anyway. 2) Gone are the full length articles on specific topics that were more in the category of Systematic Theology rather than what you expect to find in a theological dictionary (e.g., articles like "Revelation in Contemporary Theology"). 3) When lengthy arguments were made for alternative interpretations, these were abridged or eliminated, instead just describing the conclusions. 4) Discussion of the use of a word in classical Greek was abridged and only the relevant information kept. 5) Duplicate discussions of the same information was intergrated to save space. Aside from that, you have everything from the DNTT but in a more organized, easy to use fashion! How did they cram four volumes into one? Well for one thing, volume four is only an index. They crammed three volumes of information into one volume by doing three things. First, they shrunk the type. My eyes are getting weak, but this smaller type is very readable for me. It's plenty big. Second, they moved from a single column to double column format. Finally, they increased the height and width of the book to make the book larger. It is a full inch taller, and about two inches deeper than the original. And it is only about as thick as volume 1 of the original set.

As a result, you are getting virtually all you need from DNTT for $23. You save money over the four volume set, which is $93 here at Amazon. You save a chunk of shelf space. You also save time reading through irrelevant classical Greek information that actually has no exegetical value in the NT (remember, they kept the information about Classical Greek that's relevant for NT interpretation), and skimming past extensive bibliographical information you'll never track down. If I didn't need the full DNTT for a project I'm working on, my set would be on eBay in no time! I own and routinely use TDNT, DNTT, the Exegetical Dictionary of the NT (EDNT), and Spicq's Theological Lexicon of the NT (TLNT). I originally got this DNTT-AE as a fluke, to look it over for a friend just getting into learning Greek. I gave him many Greek resources, but kept this one. It's more practical and user friendly than the original.

One last comment. In using all of the four standard theological dictionaries, I find that Spicq's TLNT provides superior insights to the others. I recommend it more highly than the others, but due to some problems of consistency and completeness, it is not good all by itself. Read my review of it here on Amazon. I think that this DNTT-AE and Spicq's TLNT are a super combination and may be all a pastor or educated lay person would need by way of theological dictionaries of the NT. Most pastor's that have TDNT never use it. The same could be true of DNTT, but DNTT-AE makes it easier to use, and you don't have to wade through so much like you do in TDNT. There's no wading through Spicq's TLNT either. DNTT-AE and Spicq's TLNT are a great combination.

Outstanding value

Of all of the bible study books I have, this inexpensive reference is far and away the best value. I like it better than my Little KittleTheological Dictionary of the New Testament, and it is about half the price. It works best with the Mounce InterlinearThe Zondervan Greek and English Interlinear New Testament (NASB/NIV), which also uses GK rather than Strong numbering. These two books are the best money you could spend for original language word study. I find them exciting.

For those who would prefer to start with English rather than Greek, the Mounce dictionary Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, is well written, compact and very useful. But it cannot equal Verbrugge's Greek based dictionary for insight and enlightenment. Choose the Greek based reference if you are at all up to it. It is not all that difficult, and well worth the extra effort.

Great reference

This book is great. It contains definitions for every Greek word in the New Testament. It also contains a lot of other information, like the word's use in Greek culture, its use in the Greek Old Testament, and most importantly, all the ways it is used in the New Testament. This is a great book for a Sunday School teacher or any studious layperson. You don't need to know Greek to use it, but you do need an exhaustive concordance or an English to Greek bible so you can determine what word to look up.

Necessary Overkill

Passing the PMI-ACP exam is different from other certification exams that I've taken. The biggest difference was that I never had any questions that had me fill in a blank, pick a term from a list, or do a formula calculation. Instead, almost everything I was asked was along the lines of "This is the situation--what do you do?" and the right answer required me to be able to THINK in Agile.

I used the rmcproject.com book on the PMBOK for my PMP certification, so for the ACP, I came back to it again to see what it could offer. The truth is, this book is overkill. It covers way more material than you need to know to pass the exam, and it even says so in several places. But that's because, as I mention above, this exam is about needing to know a lot of things in order to rewire your thinking for some pretty tough questions.

There are a couple of times I think the author does a poor job of making examples through metaphor--the analogies don't quite fit, but you can get the general idea. There are also times the book goes a bit chart-happy and we have graphics that I don't feel are necessary to make a point. For example, I don't need a pair of overlapping curves on an X-Y diagram with pictures of CD-ROMs and books to understand that face-to-face communication has the highest value.

That said, I still do recommend this book. And I also STRONGLY recommend you use the latest edition of this book because the PMI-ACP exam changed in October of 2015. As luck would have it, I had to switch to this edition just as I was close to taking the exam--so I can tell you that yes, the new edition has been substantially modified in certain places. It's much thicker. The exam changed to be more about thinking in Agile, and some of the dialogue, particularly in the second half of the book, has been updated to reflect this.

Either way, I didn't have access to the exam simulation software that is also sold. So I can tell you that using the practice exams and sample exercises in each chapter is a great way to get what you need firmly in your head for the exam. I do recommend this book. It requires a lot of study and has a lot of potentially irrelevant pieces, but in that way it also makes for a very complete reference for the PMI-ACP exam.

Did what it was intended to do....help me pass the PMI-ACP !

I bought the Second Edition, because I took my test in Nov 2015 (and passed). The first version was for those people taking the test before November 2015. Most of the information I drew upon to answer questions came from this book (and experience of course). The book helped with the correct terminology. The book is very well written and very easy to understand. The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the practice questions were not very similar to the real exam questions. Maybe it is the new test format since November or something, but only ~50% of the actual PMI-ACP exam questions were similar - in some way - to the practice questions in this book. More on the questions later. However, what is most important here is that I did pass, so this book obviously did something really, really well for me to pass :) I used the book as Mike instructed: I read the book once and did not do the end of chapter questions, then I read the book again, and did the questions. I have been using Agile for ~5 years, but I actually picked up more the 2nd time through. In addition to the book, I bought the flashcards and the Question Bank from www rmcls .com. I was not impressed with the flashcards because they had soooo much stuff on each one. I ended up making my own with 3x5 notecards that were better suited to quizzing myself one topic at a time. I also bought the question bank of questions. I bought Version 1 (Version 2 still not out), and am not sure I would spend that $100 again. The questions on the question bank required you to know so many details (exact working of 12 principles, exact wording of tools used in each stage of Retrospectives, etc..), but none of those specifics were on the actual test. Very strange. I memorized so much stuff because the practice questions required you to know so many specifics (not general questions like the book suggested), and then found the test did not need any of the specifics - just very general understanding of Agile. I was really disappointed with how few practice questions were actually similar to the real exam - after paying $100+. (Same problem with the 1000+ practice questions on the Exam Prep that is on the PMI website - but those questions were free to access for PMP members). [NOTE: I also used the PMI-ACP Agile Prepcast to get my 21 pre-req hours to be able to apply for the exam. Personally, I liked how Mike Griffiths presented the information in the book vs. Cornelius Fichtner in the Agile PrepCast. However, I needed the 21 hours. Cornelius does give much more information and details than Mike does.]. Anyway, back to the book. This book is very, very good! You can actually learn from this book, very simply written, good levels of both summary and detail where applicable. This book is easily useable for future reference (I will), and to help explain Agile to new team members, stakeholders, etc... It is definitely worth buying! Again, I could NOT have passed the exam without some help on nomeclature and common terms, and the best help I received was from this book! I did the whole purchase, prep, study, take exam in ~ 6 weeks. Definitely buy it for the exam or just a reference. If going for the exam, buy the book and look for some good quality practice questions. Good luck !

Excellent Resource

I used this book as the main driver for my preparation for my PMI-ACP exam. After taking the tests in this book, I gauged my weak points and read on those topics, using the other books in the PMI reference list. No problem at all passing the exam.

I highly recommend this book as the main resource for your certification preparation. The way the book was organized and presented is also quite light; not as simple as Rita’s for PMP, but still a very easy read and effective format.
