Allison carver is both a cook and a counselor. She combines the two and creates a useful handbook for anyone who wants to improve communication within the family. --Not to mention great food! I would recommend this book to people who want to practice cooking skills, improve communication techniques, and enhance family bonding.

Great ideas for a stronger family

Cooking Therapy isn't just about fixing dinner. It's about using cooking as a way to connect as a family, as a way to improve communication skills (and collaboration skills). It should be a fun and relaxing experience as a family. It's the process here that's important, not the end (food) product.

The book begins with a few steps for helping to make this an enjoyable and productive experience for your family. She talks about being "Mindful in the Kitchen" by making it a comfortable place, by planning ahead and making sure you have everything you need before you begin and by being aware of your feelings.

She gives great instruction as well on how to involve everyone, giving each family member a job to do that requires them to not only communicate with other family members but to give and receive instruction from one another. This helps all family members develop leadership and listening skills.

In addition to wonderful help and suggestions for cooking together, Cooking Therapy takes the process to the next logical step--eating together. Family dinners are so important that there is a whole chapter devoted to creating effective, enjoyable dinners that will help strengthen your family.

Not only is this book full of wonderful advice to use one of the necessities of life to strengthen family communication and family bonds, but it has tasty recipes as well. These recipes are what my family would call "comfort food." There is a good mix of fun treats and practical meals, enough variety for any palate.

Unique & Fabulous!

After being the family cook for 30+ years, the "joy of cooking" wore off several years ago. So I have spent the recent past watching my husband discovering the fun of cooking along with getting a good meal and a much needed break for myself. But, after reading Allison Carver's new book, things are about to change. The book is filled with so many fresh ideas, leaving us with renewed energy and plans for endless fun cooking together. I love learning new things, especially about a subject I thought I had mastered long ago. The book is so well written and full of easy to follow, yummy recipes...so creative and yet so simple. The "advice" is dispensed with refreshing humor and a common sense approach. Since most of us do not share the author's talent, education and experience, we now have a "how to manual" (although it certainly does NOT read that way)on the essential family/couple/friend bonding process. Thank you for raising the fun meter for this former family cook. If you want more of Allison, and who doesn't, check out her blog and YouTube channel. She is a ray of sunshine and having followed her for a few years now, I promise you she is the real deal. Hope there are many more books to come. Bravo Allison Carver!

I think this book does an excellent job for students and parents/adults alike, to see just how influential and positive Father Junipero Serra really was. He was a man who had extraordinary vision for the lives of the people he touched. He was committed in his faith, and this biography depicts this strongly. Also, students will learn of his fortitude in tough times, as well as his ability to find the good in everyone and in every situation. The illustrations are rich, full of life, yet the text is still inviting to younger readers. After you come to the end of this book, you feel like you had a small glimpse into the life of an incredible individual. Though a bit long for some younger readers, this is a must read for anyone interested in the birth and formation of California Missions.

Entrepreneurship, Intrapreneurship, innovation and culture are hot ticket items for our clients. So I keep an eye out on the start up books that come out on a regular basis.

I am childish
As an author of start up books myself, I get very jaundice when I start reading others. It is professional jealousy and it is childish. Most of these books (if not all) are better then mine (which reinforces the jealousy).

I was prepared to be unimpressed by "The Entrepreneur Revolution" by Daniel Priestly.

Covers a lot of angles
It is superb. It touches on so many books that we cover for our clients. It covers Ken Robinson (our education system), it covers "Mavericks at work" and "Poke the box" (passion), it covers "Killing giants" (the future is small business), it covers Chris Anderson (long tail, makers), it covers the "Flash foresight" (the future), it covers Taleb (be anti-fragile), it covers Marketing 3.0 (culture as the new marketing) and It even throws in some Eckhart Tolle (live in the now). All written in a "How to be a fierce competitor" way.

Complete no-nonsense
Straight talking. Nothing complex about technology, social media, strategy but some very simple home truths which are very difficult to argue.

Our time is now
The starting point of the book is that the industrial revolution is over, the information technology revolution is about to be over and we are entering the entrepreneur revolution. We are moving from hands and heads to hearts. The future is customer intimacy, delivered by entrepreneurs who deliver amazing value, love what they are doing and get paid for it.

I am inspired!

The goal of this book is to rejuvenate our mindsets so that we can get out of the industrial age and make headway into the new age of free-thinking.

I was assigned this reading at University of Baltimore for my Entrepreneurship class. This book taught me that in order to be a successful entrepreneur, we have to reprogram our thinking and expectations for our lives. I like this book because it is an easy read of various ways I can start changing my lifestyle today. I also like that Daniel encourages the reader to find the hidden lessons within the stories and challenges. For example, Priestly mentions ten challenges to kick-start your innate entrepreneur.

One of the challenges is to tune out the news and media, and go read a book. From this he makes a good point that the media influences us to think and act a certain way. By tuning out, we stand a better chance of unlocking our potential. I have an idea of how to complete some of his challenges, but Priestly also brings home the point that ideas are worthless by themselves, because it is all about how we make the ideas a reality.

This book isn’t necessarily for those who want a cut-dry text with forms of business plans and legal templates to use for their business. It is for those who need some motivation and inspiration for looking at their world differently. The revolution will not be televised.

With business moving so fast and traditonal sales methods and products becoming increasingly outdated what themes are still at the core of any business?

Daniel Priestley's book(s) has created fantastic inspiration for me in keeping me grounded and focused on my journey as a struggling entrepreneur (read: I am "all ideas and very little implementation!"). He understands that we aren't doing it for the money, we are doing it for the creation, for the thrill of a challenge, because we love helping people, to be on the edge of seats in life and business everyday and to be ahead of the curve leading the world into a new place!

This book in particular had given me so much inspiration and FLOW around who am I and what I can offer to any business. I went to his one day seminar today and have gotten further pages of notes that I'm going to implement over the next couple of weeks.

It doesn't seem hard either! It's just easy! Like a key has been turned! But that's just the FLOW that has been created by this book for me.

I'd say a book like this comes along once per year for me. A book that just breaks you out of your zone and takes you up to the next level. The next level is not any more harder or easier but it is a lot more simpler for you to operate and be yourself on that level.

About the Author

Rufus Butler Seder is an optical genius whose first significant invention was Lifetiles, glass-walled murals that appear to come to life when the viewer walks by. He’s installed them at the Smithsonian, SeaWorld, Union Station, and other museums, aquariums, train stations, and ocean liners around the world. Next came Scanimation, and his company EyeThink, Inc., a business that produces a line of toys and gifts using technologies he’s invented. Mr. Seder lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

Scanimation books are great, this one is okay

A bit more simple than I expected. Other scanimation books have more content and are in color, which attract the interest of my godson more than this one. We still read this to him often and he likes to watch the horse run.

Unassuming Sidney has equal parts love & luck

This is a cinderella/ugly duckling tale that demonstrates the fact that everyone is capable of winning if you only believe. If you don't believe yourself beautiful or capable or lovable it is very hard for others to find you so.
The author's wit shines and her sense of humor is utilized to carry the story and the heroine to the man of her wildest dreams
