A classic text

This book cost a lot more than it used to, and hasn't been updated since 1977. But the information it provides and the readability that it offers cannot be beat. The presentation given on the first law along with the statistical insight offered on the second law, are among the most readable. Real world examples that are clearly described present insight into applications of the first and second laws. Illustrations and phase diagrams are given for each example, and the effect of different parameters along with results are concisely discussed. Equation of state information is clear and insightful. Overall, it is an excellent text on engineering thermodynamics. The only thing that I would improve (if the authors ever updated) would be the nonreacting mixtures chapter. As a final note, which I add after trying to read another Engineering Thermodynamics book is "what is mechanical work?" and "what is heat?". If a thermo book can't explain these concepts how can you rely on it for anything else. And also, let's say you have a valve, turbine, or heat exchanger for example. If you go to a book's index and can't find these devices listed, your SOL. Fortunately, Reynolds and Perkins lists them along with many other applications.

Compelling storyline

I found the storyline to be very compelling, well thought out, quite intuitive. Really enjoyed the detailed, historical back story that brought a good amount of substance to the storyline. Where the book fell a bit short was with character development, inconsistent, out-of-character actions, and repetition in the storyline. A creative, good read, but there are better Neville novels.

Thank you for resurrecting the craft of horror!

This book scared the daylights out of me! I haven't been this creeped out by a novel since reading early Stephen King. I literally had to put the book down and wait for the icy terror to release its grip from my heart before I could proceed with the tale. Fresh plot, damaged but smart characters, and a pace that moved at just the right speed, dropping hints like a trail of blood, unable to resist following until the author's final reveal. As soon as I devoured it, I thought, "In what dark corner has Adam Nevill been hiding and does he have more??" Nevill is a master poet, crafting a true old fashioned horror story, instead of overtly showing us the monster, he leaves the fright to our minds, where it can do the most damage. Bravo, Adam Nevill and thank you for bringing back horror. I am an addicted fan.

Really? Is the question that continued to come to mind. Story was totally unreal. If I read the statement "I love you with all my heart" I would have screamed. Vampires my butt a bunch of cry babies. On every single page someone is crying. The first two books on the series was cool but this was totally not worth it.

From the start I should have known this story was a loser. In the beginning Stephen sets out to explore the acceptance of his sexuality of being gay. In his exploration he choose the night club scenes of NYC. On the first night & very first club he finds his mate, who's being sexually assaulted by two men at the same time. His frees the man takes him to a hotel and they have sex. (Really?) After 3 years of being a sex slave wouldn't you think 1 night off would be acceptable? " Oh and by the way I'm a vampire." "Oh cool" (Really?)

This book was horrible. Everything was really sappy, the story line was bad and the writing was was even worse. All everyone did was cry and whine about everything that was happening to them. after I bought this book for my kindle, I regretted it right away. Do not by this book!

With a heart warming plot, this story gave me everything I look for in paranormal erotic story. We start with Stefan questioning his sexual orientation. As a big bad worrior he "must" mate a woman. Then he meets his mate a Man...Patrick who can overcome his past of suffering every type of abuse and abandonment imaginable and live happily ever after with Stefan. Very warm and loving relationship develops between the two.

ONE STAR edition of 5 star book.

ONE STAR FOR THIS EDITION. I apologize for the following awkwardness. However as many are aware, Amazon sometimes places reviews of a title together no matter what edition was actually reviewed. This review is for the following edition only: Kindle Edition; file size 847 KB; print length 522 pages; publication date December 12, 2012; sold by Amazon Digital Services, Inc.; ASIN B00ANUQEIO. Get a different edition. This one leaves out all illustrations including those needed to support the text. The book itsef is 5 stars for information even though it is not great writing. If you do read the book, which I recommend, you need to be aware that Kunz used terms & gemstone names which are not in common usage today. During my original reading, I was able to consult a Dr. of Geology who was also a gemologist about some of them. Rereading, I made use of various dictionaries & online resources. I am still a little confused about hyacinth. According to some sources it is red zircon. Others state that it is red, orange or yellow zircon. Another says that zircon is not a true hyacinth. My gemologist friend surmised that Kunz could have been referring to a variety of orange to yellow hessonite garnet. I believe that Kunz was referring to a stone of orange, yellow or golden hue, probably zircon. However, I have read that many cut stones in these colors originally thought to be zircon proved to be garnet.

Great book, terrible read

This book has a lot of great information, but the book is hard to read. The optical character recognition was about as poor as I have ever encountered. A run through a Spell Check program would have done wonders to make the book easier to read. The text also referred to or was dependent on the figures that should have been included, but all that was displayed were the figure titles. The same book by the G competitor had the figures, and the book was no charge. Also contributing to the hard read were the footnotes that often ran for several screens making it hard to follow the author's train of thought.
